Mas è un terranova ed è una morbida palla di pelo nero e lucido quando Ferruccio decide di prenderlo con sé. Lo chiama Mas perché «per essere un cucciolo, sei bello massiccio», ed è l'inizio di una fantastica avventura. L'uomo non ha mai avuto un cane, ma coltiva un grande sogno: insegnare al suo nuovo compagno a quattro zampe come salvare chi è in difficoltà in acqua. Dopotutto, il terranova ha un istinto speciale per il salvataggio, o almeno così raccontano i libri di mare. Unico problema: Ferruccio non ha la più pallida idea di come fare. Tra i due nasce da subito una tenerissima amicizia, una sintonia tanto forte che Mas decide di fidarsi di Ferruccio e seguirlo in acqua. Nuotando scopre un irresistibile legame con quell'elemento, e con il suo amico umano inizia a sperimentare i modi in cui sfruttare l'istinto di salvataggio. Impara a buttarsi prima dalla riva, poi dal gommone, infine addirittura dagli elicotteri, affinando sempre più la tecnica che gli consente, una volta in acqua, di portare al sicuro la persona in pericolo. Nike - She's All That And More

Nike was the winged goddess of victory--victory both in war and in peaceful competition. When Zeus was gathering allies at the start of the Titan War, Styx brought her four children Nike (Victory), Zelos (Rivalry), Kratos (Cratus Strength) and Bia (Force) into the god's service. Nike was appointed his charioteer and together the four became sentinels of Zeus' throne.
Nike was depicted in ancient Greek vase painting with a variety of attributes including a wreath or sash to crown a victor, an oinochoe and phiale (bowl and cup) for libations, a thymiaterion (incense burner), an altar, and a lyre for the celebration of victory in song.
In scenes of the War of the Giants she appears as the charioteer of Zeus. In mosaic art and coins Nike is often shown holding a palm branch as a symbol of victory.
Nike was closely identified with the goddess Athena and at times was little more than an attribute of the goddess. Nike was sometimes multiplied into a host of Nikai (Nicae, Victories).
